Arrival in Traunkirchen
Mattsee Does Not Rent To Jews
Wiener Morgenzeitung 3/885, 14 July 1921, p. 5
Austrian National Library, Vienna
The Schönberg family arrived in Traunkirchen from Salzburg on 14 July. That same day, an article appeared in the Wiener Morgenzeitung which discussed the middle-term effects of summer retreat antisemitism in the Mattsee business location. One of the “first Austrian industrial companies” had “sent a letter in correct consequence” of the local council’s resolution to keep the retreat free of Jews “to a Mattsee firm, notifying that they had no use for goods from Mattsee.” In consideration of humanitarian consequences (cessation of donations from the United States for needy children in Austria), [the company] had refrained from publicizing the matter beyond the country's borders to America.
